The Cowboys may have lost one of their best and mainstay players for a long time.

Cowboy left in a tackle on Tyrone Smith suffering a hamstring down the left that led to a tear in training on Wednesday and could miss several months of the 2022 season, according to ESPN.

Smith went down during training with what first emerged as a knee injury. And when tests showed there was no damage to Smith's anterior cruciate ligament, that seemed to be good news.

But additional tests found Smith's hamstring torn, and he is now ready for further tests Thursday to determine the severity of the hamstring tear.

Without Smith, the Cowboys would have lost most of their offensive line. Picked first-round draft for rookie Tyler Smith He played left tackles in college and may be called upon to do so now for the Cowboys, but before Tyron Smith was injured, the Cowboys wanted Tyler Smith to play guard as a rookie. Josh Paul is selected in the fourth round of 2021 and has never played as a rookie, and Matt Waltzkopick in the fifth round of 2022, would be other options to replace Smith in a left tackle.

The Cowboys picked Tyron Smith in the first round of the 2011 draft, and he's been in Dallas longer than any other player on the roster. When he was healthy he was among the top offensive linemen in the NFL.
